MAXIMIZE YOUR GAS MILEAGE

• Pack Light:  Every 100 pounds of added weight in the back can reduce fuel economy by as much as 2%, according to the Department of Energy

• Air Filter:  Make sure your air filter is clean

• Watch Your Speed:  The government estimates that the most efficient is between 40 and 60 MPH for most vehicles.  You can save up to 20% driving 55 instead of 70.

• Idle Time:  Gets you 0 miles per gallon.  Pick your routes and times for driving, when you can.

• Tire pressure:  Under or over inflated tires change the way a car handles, adding drag and speeding wear, which can reduce fuel efficiency by about 3%.

• Motor Oil:  Using the wrong grade of oil can lower your fuel efficiency by 1% to 2%.

• Cruise Control:  Whenever it is safe to do so, it helps avoid speeding up and slowing down.

• Proper Maintenance:  An engine in need of a tune-up operates about 4% less efficiently.
